Happenings during January 2026 include... Happy New Year! - Thursday, January 1, 2026. Pioneer Center Youth Programs - January 2 through February 25, 2026. Washoe County Library locations will host performances by taiko drum group Tsrunokai, magician Larry Wilson, and musical ensemble the Note-Ables. Junior Ranger Event - Birding Bonanza - Friday, January 9, 2026, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Learn about birding with a ranger at this free, all-ages Junior Ranger event. This week's event will include learning how to identify birds, a guided nature walk, and a visit from the Lahontan Audubon Society. At Idlewild Park, 1900 Idlewild Dr. in Reno. Come in from the Cold Family Entertainment Series - Saturdays, January 10, 17, 24, 31, 2026. "Come in from the Cold" is held on Saturday evenings in the Western Heritage Interpretive Center at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno. The 2026 series is in January, February, and March. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with performances starting at 7 p.m. Seating is limited, so arriving early at this popular event is a good idea. A $5 per person donation is requested at the door. The January 10 performance is by the Monday Night Volunteers. Hands ON! Second Saturday at the Nevada Museum of Art - Saturday, January 10, 2026. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for a day of fun for the whole family, including storytelling, art activities, live performances, and all current exhibits. Admission to the Museum is free for all on Second Saturdays. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Library Book Sale - January 10 - 18, 2026. Library book sales are in the mall space next door to the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall. Preview day for Friends of Washoe County Library members is on the Friday before each sale period, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you aren't a member, you can join Friends at the door. The sale is open to all every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. "Toytopia" at the Wilbur D. May Museum - January 11 through April 27, 2026. "Toytopia" is an all-ages exhibit at the Wilbur D. May Museum in Reno. Both grown-ups and kids will enjoy "Toytopia." It is inspirational for children and adults who can revisit fun times from childhood. The entry fee is $13 for adults, $11 for children 3 to 17 and seniors. Kids under 3 are free. Hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. The museum located in Reno's Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. Reno Wine Walk - Saturday, January 17, 2026, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Visit any of the participating start merchants with $30 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. This is a 21+ event. The theme this month is Winter Fest. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call 775-825-WALK(9255). Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - Monday, January 19, 2026. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is an official national holiday observed across the country, with most federal and local government offices closed for the day. There are celebrations and activities to celebrate the day in the Reno area, plus ways you can volunteer as part of the concurrent Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Love Notes Short Romance Film Competition - begins January 21, 2026. This competition is about storytelling under pressure, creative problem-solving, and celebrating love in all its beautifully complicated forms. Whether you're a seasoned filmmaker or jumping in for the thrill, Love Notes is designed to be fast, fun, and fiercely creative. Your film should be between 5 and 9 minutes. Screenings and award ceremony at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2026. Student Outreach Clinics from UNR - General and Pediatric Clinic - Saturday, January 24, 2026, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Services for adults include screenings and diagnosis, lab services, x-rays, EKGs, blood pressure monitoring, some treatments, and referrals. Services for patients aged 18 and younger include Head Start physicals, sick child visits, well-child checks, and nutrition counseling. By appointment only. Moana Lane in Reno. 2025 City of Reno Junior Ranger Program - Sunday, January 26, 2025, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. This program is a fun way for participants of all ages and abilities to connect with nature, learn new skills, and enjoy the great outdoors in our beautiful parks. Some of the events will be hiking, touring the nature gardens at Valleywood and Idlewild, basic bike safety and maintenance, fishing, stargazing, and more. First in the series (there will be one each month of 2025) is at Huffaker Park in south Reno. Visit the website to view the Jr. Ranger Guide online or download a copy. Junior Ranger Adventure Day - Sunday, January 26, 2025, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The theme for this day will be "Nighttime Friends," highlighting owls and bats in our area and beyond. It'll be a hoot, so we can't wait to see you there. This free event is open to families and children of all ages but preregistration is required. In the Ranch House at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno. Brew HaHa 2026 - Saturday, January 31, 2026, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. This lively event is not just any party - it's Sierra Arts Foundation's biggest fundraiser of the year, all in support of empowering local artists and their craft. Sip and savor over 100 unique brews and spirits from the best regional breweries and distilleries. Wander through the colorful and eclectic Artist Village, where 50+ talented local artists will dazzle you with their creations. Tickets available online. This 21+ event is at the Nugget Casino Resort, 1100 Nugget Ave. in Sparks. 44th Annual Robert Burns Celebration - Saturday, January 31, 2026, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The celebration includes a whisky tasting courtesy of Breakthru, dinner (including that most Scottish of dishes... haggis), presentation of the Scot of the Year, Highland dancers, and a performance by Sierra Highlanders Pipe Band. This event honors the life and works of the renowned Bard of Scotland, Robert Burns. Prepare yourself for a night like no other as we transport you to the heart of Scottish tradition and culture. At the Grand Sierra Resort, 2500 E 2nd St. in Reno. Chinese New Year - Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Chinese New Year marks the transition between zodiac signs: 2026 is the Year of the Horse. Celebrations last up to 16 days, but only the first 7 days are considered a public holiday. Celebrations culminate with the Lantern Festival on March 3, 2026.
