Fall break activities for children and families around Reno and Sparks include camps and other things to do from several area organizations. According to the "Washoe County School District Calendar: 2024-2025 School Year," fall break 2024 is October 7 through 11. Add in weekends on each end and you get 9 days to fill while the kids are out of school.

October 7 - 11, 2024. These camps are popular and the number of kids is limited, so sign up as soon as you can to ensure your child a spot. Online registration is available at the Camp Discovery web page. The information phone number is (775) 786-1000. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The cost is $290 for members, $315 for non-members. There are camps for different age groups, from 1st through 4th grade - Jurassic Journeys (grades 1 - 2), Wizarding World (grades 3 - 4). Early drop-off and late pick-up are available for an additional fee. Financial assistance is available. For registration assistance, call (775) 398-5942.

Join us for Halloween-themed art projects and make masterpieces collectively and individually, while having fun and making friends along the way. All supplies included. October 7 - 11, 2024. Registration will be online, by phone and in person. Space is limited, please register early. Weekly registration only - no drop ins. Camp is for kids ages 6 to 12.5. Fee is $135 per child for the week. Financial assistance (scholarships) is available. 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Be sure to visit the website for necessary forms. New Camp Program: Performing Arts Camp at McKinley Arts and Culture Center for 3rd - 5th graders. Find your favorite art form and work with expert instructors throughout the week to perfect your skills. October 7 - 11, 2024, 9:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., $225.

October 7 - 11, 2024. There will be fall break programs providing a fun and safe environment for kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Daily sessions are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Active games, arts and crafts, board games, free play, various field trips and group activities are planned. Contact Sparks Parks & Recreation at (775) 353-2376. Camp for all age groups is $150 for Sparks residents, $180 for non-residents. Number of kids limited - register as early as possible. Programs will be held at these locations:

October 7 - 11, 2024. Join us for a week of "Monster Mayhem," age-appropriate fun. Unleash your creativity and transform into your favorite monster characters. Whether you dream of being a scary vampire, a friendly ghost, or a funny werewolf, this camp is for you. Camp is divided into sections for grades K - 2 and grades 3 - 6 (both at Reno Little Theater). Fall Break Camp at the Nevada Museum of Art

Fun with Clay - October 7 - 11, 2024, 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon. For kids ages 7 to 11. Instruction will include basic hand building, throwing on the wheel, and sculpture. Children will learn about the basics of pottery, glazing and the transformation of their pieces from the heat of kiln. This will be a fun and educational class. All works will be fired in the Museum's kiln. Snack and materials are included.

Intro to Visual Art - October 7 - 11, 2024, 9 a.m. to noon. For kids ages 7 to 11. Under the guidance of the instructor, students will learn foundational skills related to drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. All supplies and a mid-class snack are provided.

Digital Art and Illustration - October 7 - 11, 2024, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. For kids ages 7 to 11. Kids will have fun playing on the Museum's iPad Pros as they work on story-boarding, character design and animation in this summer camp. All supplies and a mid-class snack are provided.

You'll find fun activities at your local library branch during fall break, October 7 to 11, 2024. The Washoe County Library System offers many free events, activities, and presentations. Children of all ages, families, and adults will find something of interest at every library branch in Washoe County.

October 7 - 11, 2024. Full play "Star Wars - The Franchise Awakens" camp. This camp ends with a free community performance on October 11 at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno. The cost is $335. It is for ages 7 to 17 and you can register online. Limited to 40 actors and 10 backstage. Pre-registration required. For more information, call (775) 313-3900.

The Reno metro area offers several multi-screen theaters, a low-cost cinema at the Grand Sierra Resort, feature films and star shows at the Fleischmann Planetarium, and in Sparks, an IMAX theater and one of the few real-live drive-in theaters in America still showing movies.

Visit a Park, take a Hike

Reno, Sparks and Washoe County public parks and trails are open to outside activities. When the weather is nice, it is good to get outside and enjoy open spaces after being cooped up. There are some coronavirus restrictions, so be sure to check before you go.
