What happened to the original Nevada State Fair?

The original Nevada State Fair was first held in 1874 and was Nevada's longest running event (136 years) until it's last year in 2010. In March of 2011, the fair's board of directors decided the show could not go on, citing a large debt and inability to raise funds necessary to continue.

In August of 2013, a new non-profit organization was formed to revive the tradition, bringing this event back to the Silver State.

State Fair of Nevada

Fair returns to the original location

The State Fair of Nevada is being promoted as the return to Reno of Nevada's original event. It is taking place June 11 through June 13, 2026, at the Nevada State Fairgrounds, home to the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center and Reno Rodeo Arena. This fair has not been held since 2010, when the State Fair Board voted to dissolve the event. Its return follows the passage of Assembly Bill 333 during the 2025 legislative session, which returned management of the fairgrounds to the Nevada Department of Agriculture.

The three-day event will feature a variety of attractions, including carnival rides, youth bull riding, and live entertainment. An opening-night concert featuring country artist Caleb Montgomery is scheduled for June 11, while a drone show will close out the fair on June 13.

This fair is not free. Tickets are on sale now. General admission is $10, while opening-night concert tickets are available for $15. Multi-day passes are also available.
